Karen Golden, Esq. was graduated from St. John’s University School of Law. Since her admission to the bar, Ms. Golden has devoted herself nearly exclusively to the practice of family and matrimonial law. She has personally represented clients in all phases of divorce proceedings, appeared at numerous trials and hearings, negotiated and prepared settlements, and written briefs and argued matrimonial appeals and Family Court custody appeals in the Appellate Division in both the First and Second Departments. Most recently, she has developed a large client base of same-sex couples who are charting the waters of prenuptial agreements, child custody and divorces for the first time in history, many of whom are marrying later in life, involving both marital and estate planning issues
Ms. Golden started her career as an associate with the prominent matrimonial “boutique” firm of Clair & Daniele, P.C., in New York City in 1995. In 1997, the firm joined with Rosenman & Colin, LLP and formed the core of the matrimonial litigation department in that firm. Rosenman & Colin later merged with the firm Katten Muchin Zavis, and became Katten Muchin Zavis Rosenman LLP (“KMZR”). Ms. Golden left KMZR and relocated her practice in 2002 to East Hampton, New York.
Ms. Golden is a certified Law Guardian for children in the Appellate Division, First Department, having completed all of the necessary course work and received recommendations from judges and adversaries for such certification. She also trained as a P.E.A.C.E. facilitator, and has led numerous sessions with litigants in divorce and custody cases in the First Department. In recognition of her reputation and expertise by her peers in the bar and on the bench, Ms. Golden received an “AV” rating in the Martindale Hubbell Law Directory, which signifies a lawyer reaching a “very high” to “preeminent” reputation at the bar. She was a regular contributor to the New York Family Law Monthly published by the New York Law Journal Press from its inception, and continues to be active in the Suffolk County Bar Association.
Ms. Golden has been involved in a myriad of high profile cases on the East End and Manhattan, which, due to privacy issues, are not disclosed here. Ms. Golden has also been instrumental in the making of groundbreaking case law, including Matisoff v. Dobi, 90 N.Y.2d 127 (1997). Ms. Golden contributed substantially to the brief to the Court of Appeals, which established the “bright line” rule regarding executed, but unacknowledged, agreements.
