John J. Roe III, Esq.

John J. Roe, III is an alumni of the Phillips Academy Andover and was graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University in 1957. He earned his law degree from the University of Virginia in 1960. He has been a member of the New York Bar since 1961. During his years in practice, Mr. Roe has assisted the firm’s clients in estate planning and business and real estate matters, ranging from simple to sophisticated and complex transactions. The needs and goals of clients are the focus of thorough and creative documents and advice. In addition to serving and chairing many committees, he recently served a two year term as Chair of the Surrogate’s Court Committee of the Suffolk County Bar Association. For over forty years he was elected the Village Justice for the Inc. Village of Bellport.

Mr. Roe’s practice has been located in Patchogue for over 50 years, and during that time he has organized, participated in, and lead a variety of civic and charitable efforts. He was the President of the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce from 1989-1992. He was instrumental in the development and creation of the Patchogue Business Improvement District. After its creation in 1991, he served as President for ten years. He assumed the Presidency of the organization again in 2012.

Mr. Roe is a Vice-President and Counsel for the Suffolk County Council, Inc. Boy Scouts of America. He is an Eagle Scout and received the Silver Beaver award for his service to Scouting. He is an Active Member of the Rotary Club of Bellport where he served as President, Secretary and Director for a number of years. He has served as Aide to two Rotary District Governors and is a Paul Harris Fellow. For ten years he coached the Bellport High School summer soccer team. The Recreation Department of the Town of Brookhaven has named its Sportsmanship Award in his honor. He is a member of the Congregational Church of Patchogue where he has served as a member of the Board of Trustees. He is Chair of the Investment Board and a member of the Church Council.

He is the ninth generation of persons named John Roe to live in the Town of Brookhaven. One of his ancestors, Austin Roe, was a spy for the Colonials in the Revolutionary War.

Mr. Roe is admitted to practice in all New York State Courts. He is a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association, a member and former Chair of the New York State Bar Association General Practice Section, a Fellow of the New York State Bar Foundation and a member of the American Bar Association.
