Former president and longtime bar leader who led construction honored.
Before a standing room only crowd, the Suffolk County Bar Association (SCBA) held its building dedication and naming ceremony at its headquarters in Hauppauge on May 14. The building will now be known as the “Harvey B. Besunder Bar Center.”
The building is named after Harvey B. Besunder, an Egan & Golden partner and senior member of the SCBA. Besunder has been practicing law since 1967 and began his career as a law clerk to many Suffolk County District Court judges. He later became county attorney in the Family Court and Condemnation Bureaus.
As a member of the SCBA, he has served as past president and has chaired the Condemnation, Grievance, Judiciary and Bench-Bar Committees and currently co-chairs the Commercial Division Committee. In addition, he was the recipient of the SCBA’s President’s Award for Service to the Legal Profession and a Lifetime Achievement Award.

“I am overwhelmed to have the board name the Bar Building after me,” Besunder said. “I’m very proud of the building and the association, and of what lawyers do in general. It’s a tribute to our membership, and it’s a great place for lawyers to gather.”
“The SCBA building is more than just a structure; it is an engine of opportunity. Under Harvey’s leadership, it became a reality, opening doors for education, social outreach, and professional networking,” said Hon. John J. Leo, president of the SCBA. “By making this space possible, Harvey enhanced the careers of his fellow lawyers and the lives of his clients, proving that, when we provide the right environment, the possibilities for growth are endless.”
